Teddy Bear (super-duper digitally remastered version)

Thanks to Thanksgiving and human frailty, I have no new offering this week. A quick cleanup of some old tape, though, I have time for. I ask you to close your eyes and slip back in time...

It's 1987. College friends are sitting in Max Mason House at the University of Chicago, bemoaning romance. Or something. The talk turns to breakups, and turns mean. I, clutching my battered cheapass Cort acoustic guitar, spit out a nasty little chorus. Rick, David, and I retrofit some ridiculous little verses. All eyes turn to the Tascam 4-track cassette recorder in the corner. Rick (now, I believe, a successful lawyer in Nebraska or something like that) is tapped to interpret the melody with his booming foghorn charm. I put down a 1-fingered bass line and some crappy guitar, and we summon a chorus of friends for the American Pie-like ending.

A number of people have asked for a copy of this tune, as old tapes are dying. Unfortunately, so is mine. I cleaned it up as best I can without being able to find individual tracks. Someday, maybe I'll record a slicker, pristine version, though I expect there will always be a spike-shaped place in my heart for this rough original.
